When creating a computer program, there are several steps you can take to make it run smoothly and efficiently. One important step is setting up your Python environment to use the correct version of the language. In this tutorial, we will go over how to make Python 3 the default version on your Raspberry Pi.

The first thing you need to do is open a terminal window. To do this, click on the 'Terminal' icon in the taskbar or press Ctrl+Alt+T on your keyboard. Once you have opened the terminal, type the following command: `language:bash`

Once you are in the terminal, you will see that by default, Python 2 is being used. If you want to use Python 3 instead, you will need to make a minor change to the file `.bashrc`. This file resides in your home directory (in this case, the user pi).

To open the .bashrc file, type `nano ~/.bashrc` into the terminal and press enter. This will open the file in the Nano text editor.

Once you are in the file, look for a line that starts with `export PATH`. You will see a path to Python 2, which you want to change to point to Python 3 instead. To do this, add a new line below the existing one and type `export PATH=/usr/bin/python3:$PATH`

Once you have made the change, save the file by pressing Ctrl+X, then Y, and finally Enter. This will close Nano and return you to the terminal.

To make sure that Python 3 is now being used as the default version, log back in to your Raspberry Pi using the username pi and the password you created earlier. If asked to reboot, select Yes and press enter.

Once you have logged back in, go into the Advanced Options menu (you can do this by clicking on the gear icon in the top right corner of the screen). In the Advanced Options menu, select A4 Audio, then highlight 1 Force 3.5mm ('headphone') jack, and press enter. Then, select A1 Expand Filesystem, and press enter.

That's it! You should now be using Python 3 as your default version on your Raspberry Pi.
